Our programme
At The Sommer School our early childhood care and education programs are personal, child centric and customized for healthy learning development in every child.
We focus on enhancing skills like mindfulness, critical thinking, analytical & cognitive skills, social / emotional / physical development, creative and reasoning skills between the ages of 18 months to 6 years.
Programmes offered Monday to Friday:
- Play date (18 months to 2 yrs) Duration: 1.5 hours (9.30 am to 11.00 am)
- Pre K1 (2 yrs to 3 yrs) Duration: 2.5 hours (9.00 am to 11.30 am)
- Pre K2 (3 yrs to 4 yrs) Duration: 3 hours (9.00 am to 12 noon)
- K1 (4 yrs to 5 yrs) Duration: 4 hours (9.00 am to 1.00 pm)
- K2 (5 yrs to 6 yrs) Duration: 4.5 hours (9.00 am to 1.30 pm)
- Daycare (18 months to 6 yrs) Duration: 11am to 7 pm)
We follow a two teacher model with a support staff in classrooms – Multilingual teaching & non teaching staff, a native Spanish teacher who is fluent in Spanish, French and English. Our student teacher ratios are competitive and as per the IB standards ranging from 1:6 to 1:10 (age appropriate).

Language, Communication and Literacy
- We help children's learning and competence in communicating.
- We support them in learning to be a good speaker and listener.
- We work on building and maintaining children's interest in stories, responding to their interest in reading and writing.
- Literacy is present in each classroom through books, posters, name tags and decorations.
- We extend vocabulary through project-based discussions, stories, songs and by encouraging them to express their thoughts.
Reasoning, Problem Solving and Numerical Development
- We support children in developing their problem solving skills through everyday activities by building on what they already know and extending the problem beyond their knowledge
- We ask children to join in discussions on a daily basis thus providing them with the opportunity to further develop their reasoning skills.
- Numbers are present in our daily life in a broad range of contexts; children will explore, enjoy, learn and talk about their growing understanding.
- We provide extensive opportunities for children to practice and extend their skills and thus gain confidence and competence.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- We support children in developing the knowledge, skills and understanding that help them make sense of the world.
- We offer a wide range of activities for them to experience working with a range of tools and materials.
- Our aim is to offer opportunities to encounter creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments and in real-life situations.
- We support children in undertaking practical experiments in order to help them extend their knowledge and develop their thinking.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Physical well-being, health, and motor development
- We encourage physical development both indoors and outdoors, by supporting children in experiencing an active and healthy lifestyle.
- We provide them with a wide range of activities on a daily basis to help them improve their posture, strength, muscle tone, balancing skills, stamina, coordination and control.
- We have designed our program to allow children to exercise all their senses in learning about the world and to help them make connections between new information and what they already know.
- Children develop an understanding of the importance of physical activity by recognizing the effects it has on our bodies and health.
Creative, and aesthetic development
- We aim to extend children's creativity by providing them with a wide variety of activities and materials to work with, to experience and learn about the similarities and differences of how various materials behave.
- We provide opportunities for children to exercise their curiosity, to explore and play.
- Our approach is interactive and we foster children's creative thinking.
- We regularly involve them in discussions and provide them with opportunities to explore and express their feelings and ideas.
- Feelings, ideas and opinions can be expressed verbally and through art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-play as well as mathematics.
Health, Safety & your Child's immediate environment
Environment is the 3rd teacher
The environment at TSS is child friendly, safe, nurturing, supportive, natural, outdoorsy and stimulating.

Environment is the 3rd teacher
Allergy charts are maintained regularly and an in-house nurse is available on campus.
All teaching and non teaching staff are given basic first aid training & have undergone a fire drill training on campus.
Entry into school premises is strictly controlled.
Only our faculty is allowed close access to the children.
CCTV surveillance in the whole campus.
Tie up with Aster Hospital, Whitefield.
Our school events
Annual production typically performed by children on campus or in a public venue.
Field Trips are great way to extend learning outside the school. These could be related to theme or standalone.
School productions at smaller in scale and could be held around major local & international festivals.
Informal events with parents like coffee mornings or high tea to share informal feedback with school and mingle with teachers.
Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) is held once in the end of the term
Student Led Conference is an event where teachers take a step back and children showcase their learning. Held once at the end of every term.
